St. John's Master Mountain Bike Map

This is probably the most comprehensive map of the Pippy Park mountain biking area.

It also includes Virginia Trail and touches on Subnet.

Enjoy !

Grip Studs Giveaway

I love my grip studs.  My studded Vee Missions have saved my bacon numerous times this season. Needless to say I was delighted when GripStuds agreed to a giveaway (#gripstudgiveaway) with the formal announcement of Fatbike Republic to the interweb.

GripStuds will be giving away 300 #1000 grips studs + installation tool to one lucky person. The giveaway is open to the US, Canada and the UK. See details below.

In addition to bike tires, these studs are excellent to put in your boots for ice traction.

This Rafflecopter giveaway will be close March 15, 2015 when a random draw will select the lucky person.

Remember the more items you complete . . . the more chances you will get.

Good luck to everyone . . . thanks GripStuds . . . and welcome to Fatbike Republic.

StaFast Suspension Stem

When I first saw the StaFast suspension stem I thought that it would be the perfect addition to a fatbike. Sure there is front suspension available for fatbikes, but its not a simple bolt on and go. And do you really need 120 mm of front squish riding on a carpet of snow? Not really. What you do need is something that will take the odd jarring bump from hitting ice and hard snow, or dropping into a frozen footprint.

On their site StaFast says “By replacing a standard bicycle stem with Stafast, strain on a rider’s upper body is decreased dramatically; and unlike other dampening components on the market, StaFast lessens impact without sacrificing performance.”

In this video I unbox and install the StaFast stem on my Norco Bigfoot.

Field testing to follow.

GripStuds Install on Fat Bike

Ice is a fatbike nemesis. No matter how fat a tire you are running, if you hit a patch of ice you are going down. There are studded tires on the market, however Grip Studs provide a viable option. They install as easily as the company says and they do not destroy your tire in the process. Grip Studs are very durable and even do double duty as boot studs.

Check out the video of the install and stay tuned for a field test and a couple of very icy trail rides.

Twilight Fatness | Ride Video

We started this ride when there was still some light and it went well into the darkness. There was a certain eeriness about the entire ride with mysterious falls and trails that looked good were not good at all.  No blood was shed, but egos were bruised.

I hope you enjoy the video.

Sunday Afternoon Cruising | Ride Video

This run happened on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The temperature was right, the sky was blue and the snow was good.
What more could you want on a perfect fatbiking day?

That being said there were a few mishaps along the way. The only thing hurt was pride.
